Get to know your Photographer

Hi, my name is Taylor!

In high school was the first time I'd held a real camera. One I had no idea how to use or what I was doing. I sat through a year of a photojournalism class soaking in all of the information I could and attempting to put the pieces together. I can recall my fascination with cameras goes back to my childhood and how a photo froze time. The way a photo could instantly draw back a memory or feeling long forgotten. I wanted to fill up hundreds of old photo albums! Finally, in 2020 I decided I wanted to really give photography a try. The world was on pause because of covid and at the time I was a mom of two toddlers and worked in a bank. Me? A photographer? I didn't know how it was going to work if at all, but my now husband purchased me my first Nikon camera and the rest is history. After 5 1/2 years as I write this I reflect on the hours that have gone into becoming the photographer I am, the frustration and exhaustion I've felt and the never ending weight of competing with myself and doubt. I find myself still trying to find the courage to label myself a "photographer" but it's what I am and I couldn't image my life without it.

Through all of the long hours and literal tears I feel so fortunate to be where I am today and to have frozen many memories in time for so many clients and friends. I've photographed families who haven't done family pictures in ten years or ever, watched behind my camera as mom and dad cheered on their one year old as they cautiously smashed their birthday cake, worked smiles out of stubborn teens, captured love and eyes exchanging a silent "I love you", laughed along with couples as they shyly "booped" their noses together for a cheesy pose, watched the nervousness wash away as a session goes on, received excited messages from clients showing me my work decorating the walls of their home, witnessed a soon to be husband hold back tears as he turned to see his future wife for the first time, photographed little ones at the end of their first baseball season while mom and dad stood by proudly, saw the mix of a tired body but joyful soul of a mother during a maternity that would be soon welcoming their baby into the world and so much more. While I am first a mother I also proudly wear the title of photographer...or in better words, "memory maker". I don't know if I'll do this forever or at least until my back gives out, but in the meantime I am so grateful to have been part of the journey of so many and all those yet to come! I may work with a client one time or ten but each is as equally special.

So who is Taylor? A small town photographer? Just a mom with a side gig? No one? Whoever I may be I know one thing, I love my job! Thanks for stopping by and reading this little preview into my photographer brain. If we've met, I hope to see you soon friend! If not, let's change that!

Sincerely,

Taylor - a small town mom and photographer.
